Welcome to CHORUS
In the CHORUS experiment, we analyse the interactions of a pure neutrino beam of a particular type (the muon neutrino) generated by the big CERN SPS accelerator. Our detector has an extremely high sensitivity to detect the presence of another type of neutrino (the tau neutrino), which would be a sign of neutrino oscillation. If we observe positive evidence of neutrino oscillations in CHORUS, we can deduce the tau neutrino mass. This will be a great discovery and have a profound impact on particle physics, astrophysics and cosmology.
